Earlier this month we were one of the lucky few to be invited to the VIP event at the brand new Carluccio’s restaurant in York. The evening was not only to celebrate the grand launch of the venue but to raise a glass for the man himself, Antonio Carluccio, to toast his 80th birthday!
The evening was very much one of grandeur in the old Terry’s shop which has been renovated to keep many of its original features. The building oozes decadence and is perfectly suited to the brand’s mission to “create a memorable experience”.
The evening commenced with full trays of prosecco and an inviting welcome from the team. Joined by other York and Leeds businesses, including hospitality specialists, well-known business experts and VIP’s including the Lord Mayor of York and Sheriff of York, we mingled our way through a couple of glasses of prosecco whilst enjoying the spectacular view from the balcony windows that overlook St. Helen’s Square.
Guests were treated to an assortment of fresh Italian antipasti and canapés throughout the evening including a giant whole Parmesan and leg of prosciutto! The Carluccio’s team presented Antonio with a stunning chocolate cake from London bakery and he made a speech to thank the team and launch the venue.
This is the first venture of the company into more of a bar than restaurant venue, offering a full bar on the ground floor and a restaurant on the first floor, and what we believe will be a bookable, event space on the second floor.
The new venue is a great addition to York’s food and drink scene, offering a fantastic location for everything from afternoon coffee and croissant whilst watching the world go by, a delicious Italian meal, to an evening of cocktails, nibbles and live music.
We will be returning to Carluccios and would recommend both locals and tourists to pay the new restaurant bar a visit to enjoy the view!
