Freebird Events – York brother’s celebrate a decade of business with a National Championship!
You’ve probably heard of Yorkshire’s Brownlee brothers, but not so many of you will know Yorkshire’s “Other Triathlon Brothers”, Peter and Paul Mathieson founders of Freebird Events based in York. They might not be as well-known, but they are definitely ones to watch out for in 2017! Over the last ten years the pair have organised over 80 triathlons throughout God’s Own Country, and seen more than 30,000 participants compete.
We’ve been working with Freebird Events for the past year to re-assess their marketing and put a strategy in place to help generate more awareness of the events on and offline, and ultimately drive more bookings. The strategy included looking at the customer journey, website content and user flow, social media marketing, social media advertising, PR plan which focused on press releases in local and regional title, email marketing and development of the post event interaction and engagement with competitors.
It has been a successful year in terms of the marketing and their online and offline presence continues to grow, so much so that this year, their 10th in the business, they have been selected to host a Triathlon England National Standard Distance Championship event and a GB Age Group Qualifier for the ITU Age Group World Championships at Ripon Triathlon. Not only have they been selected for this great event, they also overachieved with bookings at one of their annual events, gaining a 20% increase in bookings from the year before, making it a complete sell-out event!
Working with Freebird Events has given the team at Pick & Mix Marketing a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the world of triathlon and, as they do with all their clients, get stuck into all aspects of the affiliate partnership. Who knows, maybe this year one of the Pick & Mix Marketing team will be a competitor themselves…watch this space!
