Less than a year on and Skosh simply oozes a sense of coolness and confidence

To celebrate a successful first quarter of 2017 at Pick & Mix Marketing we decided to treat ourselves to a team meal out. Skosh was the obvious choice when selecting a venue for our celebrations, having worked alongside Neil and the team through the launch last year we have always held the restaurant in very high esteem having seen the business blossom and develop into a firm York favourite for foodies!

We may not be recognised for our food reviews…but everyone has to start somewhere, hey!? We feel a suitably high praising report of our experience is necessary as a means of showing our gratitude for having such a fantastic restaurant on our doorstep – not to mention the wonderful Skosh team!

On arrival Morgan (GM) whizzed up some fruity fizz as a little welcome treat for the team, albeit slightly sweet, the pink tone matched our branding perfectly and it’s all about the colour coordination at Pick & Mix Marketing so that went down a treat, and with that our evening was off to a flying start (that could have had something to do with the sugar rush!)

Skosh’s menu of small or large plates means grazing throughout your visit or ordering multiple dishes as a full meal are both completely acceptable. We opted to order four small plates first and then order more after which worked perfectly for us. We enjoyed the vadai with fadmoor carrot puree, curry leaf and mustard seed, the beetroot, leek & rhubarb with basil ricotta and green tea, crispy saddleback pork and rhubarb ketchup, Skosh fried chicken with brown butter hollandaise accompanied by their speciality house sourdough, acorn dairy butter and “gunpowder” spice.  All of which were beautifully presented and delicious! We particularly enjoyed the Skosh fried chicken which we opted to order a second portion of!

The team flow through the restaurant with ease making the whole experience one of calm, casual enjoyment. There is no sense of haste from either the chefs (who are exposed in their open-plan kitchen) or the front-of-house staff, giving off a feeling of confidence. This is a business that has collectively “found its feet” and now ooze a sense of self-confidence and coolness.

After our first dishes we chose a second round of dishes sampling some of the slightly larger plates. We enjoyed the ‘kedgeree’- smoked haddock, cured egg yolk and puffed rice, crisp lamb belly, charred hispi, sumac yoghurt, pickled onion and pomegranate and the baked hake with cauliflower, miso and dukkah. Again, all of which were fantastic – especially the hake!

Suffering from “sweet tooth” syndrome, we then decided to go straight in for the desserts, sampling three of the four dishes, the white chocolate sphere, dark chocolate moelleux and the bhapa doi with forced Yorkshire rhubarb. As ultimate foodies this is the perfect place for trying new flavours and combinations and is great for sharing dishes.

Skosh is simply a delight, the perfect place for all occasions, special celebrations, business lunches and date nights, so if you haven’t been yet, we highly recommend you try it out…and you’ll need to pre-book in advance as they are fully booked most evenings now!

Thanks to the team at Skosh for making our celebrations one to remember, we’ll be back!
